Materials & Inventory

Adding Materials

Materials are the products and supplies you use on jobs. Add them to your catalog so you can quickly include them in estimates with accurate pricing.

  1. Click Catalog & pricing in the sidebar and open the Materials tab.
  2. Click Add material.
  3. Enter the material name, unit of measure (e.g., sq ft, bags, linear ft), and unit cost.
  4. Optionally assign a category and add price tiers for volume discounts.
  5. Click Save.

Tip: Use descriptive names that include the size or grade (e.g., "3/4-inch crushed gravel" instead of just "gravel") so your team picks the right material when building estimates.

Material Categories

Organize your materials into categories to keep your catalog manageable as it grows. Categories also make it faster to find materials when building estimates.

Creating categories: Categories are created inline when you add or edit a material. Type a new category name or select an existing one from the dropdown.

Filtering by category: On the Materials page, use the category filter to narrow the list. This is especially useful when you have dozens of materials.

Price Tiers for Volume Discounts

Set up price tiers so the unit cost automatically adjusts when a customer orders larger quantities. This lets you pass on supplier volume discounts to your estimates.

  1. Open an existing material or create a new one.
  2. In the Price tiers section, click Add tier.
  3. Enter the minimum quantity and the discounted unit cost for that tier.
  4. Add as many tiers as needed. ServeHub will apply the best matching tier automatically when you enter a quantity on an estimate.

CSV Import & Bulk Operations

If you have a large catalog, you can import materials from a CSV file instead of adding them one by one.

  1. Go to Catalog & pricing > Materials.
  2. Click the Import button.
  3. Download the CSV template to see the expected format (name, unit, unit cost, category).
  4. Fill in your materials and upload the file. ServeHub will validate the data and show a preview before importing.

Bulk delete: Select multiple materials using the checkboxes and click Delete selected to remove them in one action.

Bulk category update: Select materials and use Change category to reassign them all at once.
